Folk artists hit the highway for Jansch

"People On The Highway  - A Bert Jansch Encomium"

Market Square Records (Cat No. MSMCD106)

UK release date: Sept 2000 through Koch International UK

A tribute double album of covers of some of his best known songs joins this year's gathering media appreciation of the work of British folk legend Bert Jansch.

"People On The Highway - A Bert Jansch Enconium" delivers highly individual treatments from the man's extensive catalogue by his peers and subsequent generations of artists influenced by his writing, guitar playing and even his distinctive vocal delivery.

The album is scheduled for release in September 2000 on Britain's Market Square label. Participating artists include Al StewartSteve Ashley, Johnny Marr's Healers, Roy Harper, Bernard Butler, Donovan, Steve Tilston, Eleanor McEvoy and Ralph McTell.

The 24-song double album comes with a fully-illustrated 16pp booklet with notes by the artists and an appraisal by Colin Harper, whose biographer of Jansch is published in the UK in August by Bloomsbury Press.

UK TV picks up on the Jansch phenomenon with a Channel 4 documentary (June 28; 1.00am) entitled Dream Weaver.

Whilst Jansch's catalogue undergoes reissue in the autumn, June sees also the release of a new album of songs,"Crimson Moon" from Castle Communications. Jansch's 21st album in a 40 year career sanctions 2000's timely appraisal of its creator.
