New Release Album For April 14 2003: SONJA KRISTINA
http://www.marketsquarerecords.co.uk/ Cri De Coeur: Sonja Kristina is an enigmatic sensual and soulful performer who surrounds herself with original and inspiring musicians, producing albums that are emotional statements about her life and times. Actress and singer Sonja Kristina is probably best known as the lead singer of the progressive rock band Curved Air. With the band's demise, Sonja continued to make solo albums in a genre she termed acid folk, to both critical and public acclaim. Although Sonja had temporarily taken a break from performing and recording, Ms Kristina continued to be involved in music via a five year residency as pop music tutor at the The University of Middlesex. Today she continues to work independently as a voice coach, while at the same time developing her own recording projects. A troubled time in her personal life brought her closer to the world of jazz by the discovery of just how great some classic songs are. Her relationship with the songs developed as Sonja and her pupils found themselves and the university curriculum moving further and further away from contemporary pop music and closer to the world of jazz. Sonjas words:
For seven years an overwhelming sadness, Track Listing Songs:
1. Dont Explain (Billie Holliday/Arthur
Herzog Jnr) "Cri de Coeur" will be released on April 14 2003. It is a one-off departure from Sonja Kristinas self-penned material, a unique adventure for her where she explores poignant jazz standards and music theatre. The songs are emotionally performed in a melancholy smoky, ambient mood, shades of love and motherhood and a longing for romance. Spacious haunting music evocative of Satie or Badelamenti. The CD includes an experimental film by Pete Gomes (mutantfilm.com) of Sonja and her band performing the track 'Lullaby' (Track 2). Sonja says for Cri De Coeur I have secured the services of film maker Jean Henri Meunier, who will make a film that will play whilst we perform our concerts to promote the album. This is very exciting, I am planning to do three London dates at small venues during the last week of April and the first week of May. As I am not thinking to tour extensively with this project, hopefully, we will film the concerts and do a web cast." Marvin Ayres and I will then concentrate on launching MASK in March and later on announce our touring plans. We have been talking with film artists recently as we want our concerts to be an audio visual experience. There are several exciting artists who will be making films for the new tracks.
