Oi! Shamaila Khan on the Songs and the Album Track 1 "MARGAYA TERA STYLE ""Very close to my heart and very special to me. This is the first song I sang – the one that was going to test the results of two years’ training. Fortunately, it worked! "It’s got such a catchy Bhangra groove that as soon as you play it you start dancing. This was a happy track to record and even happier when it got selected for a Bollywood feature film at the completion party for the session! The film’s director attended the completion party on this song and he couldn’t believe his ears. My mother can’t stop moving when she listens to this song. Track 2 TERA NAAM SE JIOON MAIN "Rajan Bawa played this to me and I just loved it. It’s got a great melody and although it’s a Hindi pop track with a heavy dance beat it has such beautiful, meaningful lyrics. It’s a woman’s song – she’s telling her love he is the one; no messing about – that’s it! I was told off by Rajan Bawa while I was recording this. I was dancing more than I was singing. He shouted at me: "I want you to sing the song – I’m a Music Director not a Dance Director!" "The final mix is out of this world. Track 3 HABIBI "Habibi is an Arabic word: it means MY LOVE. This track is so unusual and catchy. It’s a fusion of Hindi and Arabic lyrics and melodies with a Bhangra backing. It’s a duet with an Arabic professional singer. He has this powerful voice which suits the song so well. "I was imagining myself in deserts while I was singing this song but got told, "Baby, get out of the desert and get yourself onto a beautiful English set with beautiful people dancing with you – it’s going to be hit!" Track 4 TERA NAAL NAALIt’s a woman’s song, this one. It dares. "’With you all the way, whether you like it or not.’ That is what it means. ‘I like you and you are nobody to say no. You have to be mine that is my decision. All you can do is say: Yes.’ That’s the gist of it. Another ‘dancer’ of a track. A lot of girls are going to be pointing to boys and singing those lyrics on the dance floor. Track 5 JIA BEQARAR "It’s a different me on this track. Great lyrics, fast tempo, strong hooks. And it’s a measure of Rajan Bawa’s skill that he can compose a melody that changes my voice completely yet conveys the same feel and mood of the rest of the album. Track 6 SHARARA "My dream song and it has bags of sex appeal!. ‘I am the most beautiful girl on this planet. I am a fire. You can look at me but don’t touch.’ "I came into the studio as usual one day and Rajan Bawa was humming this song and I asked him what it was because I liked it. He was being kind of coy and wouldn’t tell me but was humming it again later and I asked him for the lyric. I told him I loved it and he said it was just as well as it was the next track to record. I just screamed out loud! Because, this is a performer’s song and I like to perform! Track 7 SONEYA "I haven’t heard anything like this in my entire life. It’s a fusion of English Mc and Hindi melody and as soon as it opens, all you say is "Wow!" The vocal effects are out of the world and the English language rapping that has been blended in makes it the key track for this album. It’s also the first one we’re shooting for video. Track 8 TERA PAYAR MEIN "A favourite love song of Rajan Bawa’s. The chanting is by Saran Saghatia who recorded for ‘Devdas’, a mega Bollywood hit and it really makes the song happen. The lyric has a strong spiritual feel (and Rajan Bawa is a very spiritual man!) and this almost took me off into a trance when we recorded it. God is in it taking it to a level of love that you can’t surpass. Track 9 GOOM HAIN "I received a phone call from Rajan Bawa and he said, "I have good news for you", but he wouldn’t tell me what it was. I was working out in the gym at the time, but couldn’t wait so I rushed to the studio and he played this song to me and said "this is for you". It’s another floor filler and the beauty of it is that as soon you turn it on, it brings this flood of energy into your body. The track is untouchable and unexplainable. Track 10 SOCHO NA "A dance song (surprise!). It has a very bubbly, charming and cheeky romantic feeling to it. "Hindi lyrics, a sparky pop tune, Bhangra beat, and Spanish rapping unhinges the track from the rest of the world! "It’s brilliant fusion music and it epitomises the spirit of my album."
