He has written ten of my favourite lines on this CD and his writing is like good woodworking, you want to dwell on it for a long, long time. Peter Mulvey Miles from the Lightning, the debut album from Wisconsin-based singer/songwriter Jeffrey Foucault, is as strong a collection of songs as any debut is likely to be. The album's 15 original songs are performed with only minimal accompaniment. Foucault's acoustic guitar and vocal take the forefront on every track. His voice has an element of weathered sweetness, adding a rich and convincing quality to the songs. Foucault's writing is earnest and thoughtful, and hints at experience which belies his 26 years. As with Ellis Paul's early album, Say Something, and Richard Shindell's Sparrows Point, Miles from the Lightning is bound to be one of those rare debut albums that an artist's longtime fans will continue to revisit for years to come.
